TM password for 2007 not valid for 2009

Hi all,

A client sent me a password-protected TM (.tmw) for Trados 2007. When I try the "Upgrade Translation Memory" feature of 2009 it asks for the password but won't accept it.

I can open the TM in Workbench 2007 with the password, but it won't allow me to export so I can import it into a 2009 TM.

Any workarounds you can think of?

You should be able to export it to TMX in 2007 Dec 29, 2010

If you managed to open the TM in Workbench 2007, you should also be able to export it to TMX 1.4b format. You can then use this export file to upgrade your TM in Studio 2009.

Please make sure that:
a) You use the latest version of Workbench (build 863).
b) You open the TM in 'Exclusive mode'.
c) That you have defined a user in Workbench (because a missing user gives an error when running the Upgrade Wizard in Studio)

Hi Walter,

Thanks for the tips, but these requirements are all fulfilled, and still the "export" function is grayed out.

I am having the exact same problem now.

There is nothing in the upgrade guide UpgradingfromSDLTrados2007toSDLTradosStudio2009.pdf about passwords.

Thanks, GG!

I found this tool - KaKeeware TMPwdRec - that "allows to recover full passwords and helps to remove passwords completely".

I just want to be sure it is safe. Do you use it?

Yes, it's safe.
I tested it some time ago.
And, despite of the Trados 5.x-6.x related info, it works also with the latest Workbench TM versions, including T2007 Suite.

Of course, always make a backup of your TM before this kind of operation.

Cheers
GG
