XLS file Jan 24, 2011

XLS file can be generally converted to *.ttx file for translation with TagEditor. Why do you want to convert *.ttx file back to *.xls file, a bilingual texts in 2 columns?

clients request Jan 24, 2011

The client will need an xls file (original), he doesnt use Trados at all.
I've converted the xls into TradosEditor since it's a lot easier for me but I'm wondering if I will be able to produce a file for the client at all.
Trados 2009 might be an option, I'll try an see.

Save target as... Jan 24, 2011

In TagEditor, go to the File menu and select "Save target as...". Make sure the original XLS file is in the same folder as the bilingual TTX file.

Hi,

If you use Studio then after you open your TTX in Studio and save it as an SDLXLIFF you will be able to use the SDLXLIFF Converter to save the file as excel if you like.

A better approach might be to save it as a word document because then your client can make the changes in the word document and you can import them back into Studio without having to manually add them in.

You can get the SDLXLIFF Converter from here;

Maybe it's a language barrier, but I really don't understand what you are saying. How can you get a Word document when you save as target, if your original was Excel? I'm missing something here LOL

Anyway, it seems you got the answer to your question thanks to Paul (hi Paul!)...

... that I've seen is that this part of the instructions were not followed;

Technical requirements

SDL Trados Studio 2009 SP3
OpenXML SDL 2.0 - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyId=C6E744E5-36E9-45F5-8D8C-331DF206E0D0&displaylang=en

Perhaps this is the issue? If you didn't install it then uninstall the parts you have installed and then install this OpenXML part first and then the converter again.

Paul
