I've tried everything in these Forums and on the SDL Knowledge Base - Nothing Works.

I've de-installed and re-installed Studio and Multiterm 9 today.

I've gone to Microsoft and installed vcredist_x86.exe from:
Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package ATL Security Update; and
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package ATL Security Update

Multiterm still can't open a termbase, giving the response:

"A connection to SDL MultiTerm Server unknown could not be established.
Please check your connection settings."

I'm running Vista 64.

Have you tried installing as Admin? Jan 31, 2011

Hi Thomas,

When I have seen this error in the past it was resolved by uninstalling and then reinistalling as Administrator. Have you tried this?

Thanks

Paul

I have admininstrator rights on my computer Jan 31, 2011

I installed from my profile, which has administrator rights.

Is there another way to "install as administrator?"

BTW Multiterm also cannot create a new termbase,

giving the error:

"External component has thrown an exception"

------------------

Previously I had to have user account control off in order for Multiterm to work. Might it be that it now needs to be turned on?

Right click and chose "Run as admin" Jan 31, 2011

Sometimes it is a difference, hence the user account control prevents actions even if you are logged in as admin.
Please check, which Java versions and .NET Framework is installed on your computer.

Thanks Jerzy,

I have updated to Java 1.6.0_23 and this did not solve the problem.
(Updates 6.7, 6.13 and 6.14 are all also still installed)

Microsoft .NET Framework is 3.5 SP1,
Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Client Profile
Multiterm still not working after "repair" of 3.5 SP1

De-installed and re-installed Multiterm using "install as administrator" with right click.
User Account Control OFF.
Multiterm still not working.

Updating Java is NOT the soultion Jan 31, 2011

Just the oposite. Newer Java versions may very well lead to problems with MultiTerm.
I have only 1.5.0_10 and 1.6.0_14 on my system. No OTHERT Java versions.
In my case the software worked in Vista Home Premium 64, then Win 7 HP 64 and now in Win 7 Ultimate 64 (as I uograded Vista - 7 - z Ultimate).
I am of course not sure if that can help anything, but at least I would try to uninstall Java and install just those versions coming with Studio/Multiterm.

De-installed all Java, then re-installed Multiterm as administrator with Java 2 version 6.0_14.

Rebooted.

Open Termbase:

""A connection to SDL MultiTerm Server unknown could not be established.
Please check your connection settings."

Another half a day (after yesterday evening also) spent chasing down the SDL rabbit hole......
