The TRADOS ttx file is on a ftp server but I am unsure how to access it. Not used to live TMs. Any advice would be gratefully received.

You have to download the file to your system Feb 1, 2011

You cannot work on an ftp server, as this is intended just for file transfer purpose.
Just download the file, store it on your HDD and work with it as usual.

ttx file only opens in browser Feb 1, 2011

I can open folders of course but as soon as I get to the file it opens in browser. I am therefore unable to download. This is new to me. I guess cut and paste is out of the question.

Right click the file and chose "Save target as" Feb 1, 2011

or better use a decent ftp browser, not Internet Explorer or similar, as those are NOT designed to browse the ftp content.
Check for any freeware FTP client, like http://filezilla-project.org/

I have managed to get the file on HD! Feb 1, 2011

I used the ftp program you suggested and from there opened file for editing and it was automatically placed in an obscure folder within in a temp folder. Thank you Jerzy! You are a genius!
