In SDL MultiTerm I got the following errors when opening a termbase, creating a new one, or working with an existing termbase:

* [Retrieving COM class factory for component with CLSID {…. } failed due to the following error e06d7363]..
* A connection to MultiTerm Server UNKNOWN could not be established. Please check your server connection details.

I consulted the talisma knowledgebase and I got the following explanation + solution

Explanation
For SDL MultiTerm 2009 SP3 to function correctly, the the Global Assembly Cache (GAC) should be cleared. The GAC is located at C:\windows\assembly and consist of files called Sdl.MultiTerm.*.dll.

Reliance on the GAC was removed with SDL MultiTerm 2009 SP3.

The SDL MultiTerm 2009 SP3 installation process clears most items from the GAC, but if other applications such as SDL Trados Studio 2009 SP2 have put items inthe GAC, the SP3 installation does not remove them (because the items could be in use by another program).
Resolution

Uninstall all MultiTerm-related GAC entries, by following these steps:

1. Close all SDL applications.
2. In Windows Explorer, navigate to C:\Windows\Assembly.
3. Right-click each Sdl.MultiTerm.*.dll and click Uninstall from the short menu.
4. Restart your computer.

I could't find any of those files. I'm on Windows 7

Talisma goes on....

If you still get one of the above mentioned error messages, you also need to do the following:

1. Close SDL Trados Studio and/or SDL MultiTerm and navigate to one of the following folders:
* Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\[USERNAME]\Application Data\SDL\SDL MultiTerm\[Versionnumber]
* Windows Vista/7: C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL MultiTerm\[Versionnumber]
2. Delete the following XML files:
* BaseSettings.xml
* plugincache.xml
* UserSettings.xml
3. If the above still does not fix the issue, then navigate to one of the following folders:
* Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\[USERNAME]\Application Data\SDL\SDL MultiTerm
* Windows Vista/7: C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL MultiTerm
4. Delete the following file:
* settings.xml

I tried this but it's not working for me. I've already submitted the case, but meanwhile, if somebody knows what to do, please let me know!!!!!

Thank you!

Are you sure you see all hidden files and folders in Windows? Feb 1, 2011

Did you change the default setting in Windows? If not, Windows is hiding files from you.

Thank you, Jerzy, you are always so nice and willing to help! (though my Windows 7 was already set to show hidden files, folders and drives and protected operating system files)

I got an answer from Trados Support (thank you, Caterina Lazzarini) and they suggested me to try the Talisma Hotfix called "Resolving server connections errors after installing SDL Multiterm 2009 SP3 (+Cumulative Update 8/9)" -I've never related this Hotfix to my issue, since I'm using the Desktop edition- and it worked perfectly.

Thank you again, Jerzy, and have a nice day!
