Hi

Did anyone have a solution to this problem. Trados still refuses to open any pdfs - error message 'exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. '
This happens on all pdfs.

Thanks
L

Shortcoming Feb 19, 2011

I agree I haven't been able to open any pdf file with Studio 2009 regardless of whether it was created with WP or DTP software. In some cases, I noticed that the pdf was just scanned so it's understandable that it can't be opened - would need to be OCR'ed.

The only CAT I've been able to open pdf files with is Alchemy Publisher 3.0 but still think it's a waste of time as there's some sort of conversion process involved and the end result when exporting the file is poor, needs reformatting.

The best solution is to request the source file from your client.

If you can't see why this happens... Feb 20, 2011

... I would be happy to take a look at your pdf and perhaps offer an explanation?

The reality, as we have seen discussed on this forum many times, is that tranlsating a pdf is always a last resort anyway and some are harder to work with than others, often requiring the use of specialised software to extract a reasonable copy of the text to work with. Studio does a reasonable job, but it isn't intended to be as comprehensive as ABBYY FineReader or similar that can do an excellent job of handling many grades of pdf including images of text.

Regards

Paul

PDF & Studio 2009 Feb 21, 2011

hi,

I use Studio 2009 SP3.

I could open a PDF created by PDF creator. I used a one page file for this test.

On the left side of the side by side view, there were a lot of tags at the beginning.

I translated the text and saw the statistics of the target correctly.

I couldn't see the statistics for the source file.

I don't know how to generate a .doc instead of a .pdf.

Well, I'll try again..

Has anything changed? Mar 1, 2011

I'm envisaging to buy SDL 2009. Is it already possible to work directly on the PDF file and save it as such with no changes in formatting? If not, what software enables that? Please, do not write anything on the OCR conversion. I'm searching for a CAT tool.

No CAT does this as far as I know.
