Tageditor puts tags around umlauts in .doc file
Thread poster: scottgraham

Hi,
I have scoured the internet with this problem several times and still can't find an answer. Can anyone here help me please..?
I use TagEditor 8.2.0.835 and every now and then when I open an MSWord (2003) file my TagEditor puts tags around all of the German letters with umlauts / mutated vowels. It doesn't always do it and I just can't find what is causing this. It splits up my segments then and prevents my TM working properly of course.

I have found various threads with similar problems but they all seem to refer to more specialised file types which have their own editable filters. But, as far as I know TagEditor just uses it own standard Word file filter so I don't understand why this happens with some .docs and not with others and I don't know how to persuade it to stop..!!

Can anyone help please..????

Thanks a lot for taking the time to read my desperate plea

Cheers,
Scott.

Open the file in Word Feb 24, 2011

Select the whole text and aplly a single font like Arial or so.
If this does not help, repeat the step, but save the file as rtf, then close, reopen, resave as Word.
Try again in Tagedtior.
Consider updating your Trados to 8.3.0.863, this should be available in your account at www.sdl.com

Thank you, thank you, thank you Jerzy..!! I've read many of your helpful posts over the past years. This one has saved my file! Changing the whole file to Arial worked immediately.

I'll certainly update my TagEditor too - thanks for the tip..!

All the best,
Scott.
