I need to translate some *.h files, but Trados 2009 or TagEditor 2007 do not recognize the format. Is there any way I can open this type of files with either Trados versions and get an accurate word count?

Thanks in advance!

Marta

c++ header file? Mar 10, 2011

Hi,

I think this is a c++ header file and this is source code that you wouldn't normally translate... I think? However you could in theory do this in Studio using the regex filter, but if you can share a copy of the file and point out what you need to translate I would be happy to take a look for you and explain how... if... it can be done.

Regards

Paul

Thanks, Paul.

I think they are using this files for titles in dialog boxes, and error messages that's why they want them translated as well.

For instance, this is the content of one of the files:

?x begin defs ?>

!---------------------------------------------------------------->
!-- NLS area (set all language depended variables) -->
!---------------------------------------------------------------->

?x set CM.CAP.DIALOGTITLE="Address Books" ?>
?x set CM.CAP.DIALOGCAPTION="Address Books" ?>

?x set CM.CAP.ADDBKLIST="Address Books" ?>
?x set CM.TIP.ADDBKLIST="Displays the available address books" ?>

?x set CM.ERROR.NO.VALUE.SELECTED="No entry selected from the list" ?>
?x set CM.ERROR.MORE.THEN.ONE.VALUE.SELECTED="More than one element selected from the list" ?>

?x end defs ?>"

I'm deleting initial brackets in each line, otherwise the text does not display correctly.

I understand that I would need only translate what's in quotes, and I will to it manually as a last resort because the files can be easily opened with Notepad.

Based on your example... Mar 10, 2011

... I used the TXT filter (regex filter) like this. First I saved the file as a txt file instead of an h file, and then set the structure patterns in the Text filter like this:

Then when I open the file I see this:

Which I reckon is what you want. But make sure that the entire file is the same as the example you showed here or you may miss something, or get too much..!

Paul

Thanks a lot, Paul!!

I'll have to rename all the files, but it'll be easier than doing the word count and the translation manually.

You made my day!

... would be to change the "File wildcard dialog expression" to *.txt; *.h and then you should be able to leave them with the *.h extension. You'll find this under the Text node, two above the Structure Patterns node you used for the regex.
