Is it possible in Trados that you can create a project without using a TM?

I started creating a project and in the dialog box where i was asked to add a TM i chose not to, but, i browsed in the project folder and saw that a TM had been created.

Does TRADOS creates TMs automatically regardless if i choose not to add one?

Are TMs mandatory for creating projects?

What would be the purpose of a TMS system without a TM? Mar 15, 2011

This is as would you try to print a book without using paper...
Did you prepare the project with the task "Prepare"?
If so, it includes the preparation of a project TM, In that case try to use "Prepare without project tm" task.

If you don't want to work with a Translation Memory (TM), which is the raison d'être for the existence of any CAT tool, why bother using Trados or any other one at all? Then you can just save a copy of your text, add "_EN" (or whichever language you are translating to) and overwrite it. That's essentially the same thing.

I had some problems recently with Trados and i was experimenting with the TM so i can isolate the cause of the problem.

That's it.

Use an empty TM instead Mar 15, 2011

I could imagine problems, if your TM is huge - like over 1 million entries or so.
But even then Studio works fine, at least from my experience.

Plenty of things to do Mar 17, 2011

There are many useful things one can do with a CAT tool without being involved with its TM component.
