No converter, AFAIK Apr 5, 2011

Hello Carla,
as a general rule, you can export SDLXLIFF to the same format from which it was created. In addition to that, you can use SDLXLIFF Converter to generate bilingual Word and Excel files.

But as far as I know, there is no SDLXLIFF > XLF converter.

IN this case the source file was XLF.
So how can I convert it back XLF > SDLXLIFF > XLF in Trados 2009?

Thank you so much.

Finalize or Save target as... Apr 5, 2011

Then simply use the "Finalize" batch task or open the document in the Editor, press SHIFT+F12 and select the target file location. That's it. As with any other file type.

Thank you so much Stanislav.
I tried and it gives me an error message saying that it could not find the path (which of course it exists).
So it doens't let me save it as and XLF.

Yes, it is possible to convert .sdlxliff into .xlf Apr 5, 2011

Hi Carla,

The application Swordfish does allow conversion of an .sdlxliff file into an .xlf file.
I have used the trial version to do so and it works to perfection.
Just search for Swordfish on Google and you are bound to find it.

Kind Regards
Alex

Just some clarification Apr 6, 2011

Hi,

The process Stanislav advised when you start with an xlf as source is the correct one here. You can of course use another tool to convert the native bilingual xliff file in Studio to an xlf but if you do it in this scenario it is possible that the file you return to your client will not be the one they need for their particular application.

Might be an interesting exercise but I would advise caution.

Regards

Paul

Urgent - Saving an xlf file in SDL Studio 2014 Dec 19, 2014

Hallo
I have translated an XLF file in SDL Studio 2014 but the SAVA AS funciton won't let me save it as XLF but only as XLF.SDLXLIFF

I had tried that before in SDL Studio 2011 before purchasing SDL Studio 2014 and it worked perfectly.

I even tried to open the translated file in SDL 2011 to save it as XLF but that won't work either.

What do I need to do to save my file back into its original XLF format? Ths is urgent as I need to deliver today!

Thank you all.
Francesca

Same here Nov 24, 2015

Hello,

I have the same issue here. I get error message that SDL can not find .....................target path! when I try to save target as.

Finalize & Save as did not work.

Updated solution:

Here are the steps that worked with me:

1. Open source .xlf file.
2. Save it as .sdlxliff.
3. Use Batch Tasks function (Pre-translate Files).
4. Be sure that all TUs are translated and ok via F8 then save target as. I overwrote source file when saving target as.

Regards
Ahmad Wadan
