Hi,

Does anyone know how to load an .mif file into Trados 2009 for translation?

I'm getting the error message "The selected MIF file was created by a version earlier then FrameMaker 8.0 and cannot be opened."

You have the anwser already, at least partially Jun 20, 2011

You can use Studio for MIF8 and later. Open the MIF in FM, save as MIF8.
Or use S-Tagger to create TTX file - this will work also.

Trados 2007 Jun 20, 2011

Look in SDL International, SDL Trados 2007, Trados, Filters.
A description how to use is in File Format Reference Guide, SDL International, SDL Trados 2007, Documentation

MIF8 Jun 20, 2011

I was hoping for a quick answer as my deadline is tight...as far as saving as MIF8, it doesn't seem possible. FrameMaker only allows me to save as MIF 10 or MIF 7...and tried both files for loading into Trados without success.

Good news Jun 20, 2011

I got a hold of Trados Support.

All I had to do was use the update my Trados 2009. I had checked off because I found anoying that it would check for updates every time the application started.

Anyways, it solved the problem and I was able to load in my .mif file without doing further conversion.

Thank you Jun 20, 2011

Hi Jerzy,

Thank you for helping me out.

Incidently, what I meant by "I was hoping for a quick answer as my deadline is tight" is in response to your suggesting as to going through the manual in order to learn the conversion process. It had nothing to do with your response time.

So thanks again for your help.

Hélène

Try to look at the manual Jun 20, 2011

I couldn't describe the process quicker and better as it is done there.
Konowing nothing else than what I was told here this was the fastest way.
The S-Tagger process is in fact well know and proven process for dealing with MIF files up to MIF8. Perhaps you try to test it when you find some time.
Saving MIF7 as MIF10 is only a temporary solution (as would saving as MIF8 be), because the customer will not be able to utilize the files in many cases.

While MIF7 does NOT support UNICODE, MIF8 and later does.
Please remember this when your translation is done and save back to MIF7 in Frame.
I am not certain, if the switch from CP1252 to Unicode will not bring changes for your language. It certainly does for mine.
