Hello everyone,

I have just purchased Studio 2009, and I cannot find the way to add new terms whilst translating. When I select the word and right click, the "add a new term option" is greyed out.

Any idea?

Thanks a lot for your help!

You need a termbase Jun 27, 2011

Did you connect a termbase to the project in the project settings (under All language pairs IIRC)? If not, create a termbase in MultiTerm and select it in the project settings.

Create a new termbase out of an Excel sheet Jun 27, 2011

A brief description can be found here: http://trados-training.tts-td.com/Multiterm.pdf
The description deals with Multiterm 2007, but the differences are quite brief, so you should be able to utilize the document.

BTW, you need to select BOTH source and target term to be able to add it to the dictionary.

How about a text expander? Jun 27, 2011

Alternatively, you can use a text expander tool to complement your Multiterm use. I've just been learning how to do this and have found it extremely helpful. You can read about how I'm using it here:

yes I have created and added one but when I get to the Editor page, in the right handside window it says that there is no termbase open?

Trados 2007 Suite Freelance is included in the Trados Studio 2009 SP3 Freelance and I use Multiterm 2009 SP4.

Do you use Trados 2007? I know it is included but I did not ask for that.
Your exact version number please, not just SP3 or SP4.
Go to help, chose about and give the number listed there.

Launchstudio.bat Jun 27, 2011

Sabrina,

For me, when switching between Trados 2007 and Studio, term recognition usually stops working in Studio and I see exactly the same behavior you're describing. To reactivate term recognition in Studio, I have to launch it via the launchstudio.bat hotfix.

I don't know if you've tried that already.

This happens practically every time I switch between the two programs.

All the best,

Nora

Please try to use a repair utility for Multiterm Jun 28, 2011

Please go to kb.sdl.com and look for article 3588
On the right side you will find a repair utility for MT. Download, unzip and run the file.

Please also check, if you added the termbase via Tools - Options or via Project - Project settings.

Thanks Nora, I'll try that as well...

I really think that when you pay more than 600 euros for a software, you shouldn't get that sort of problems... I've been using it for only 2 days and I am not really impressed!!!

Before repairing check first Jun 28, 2011

Go to Project - Project settings and check, if the termbase is listed there.
Maybe you simply added a termbase via Tools - Options AFTER having opened a file or created a project. This would not affect the already existing translation, but only be used for future translations.

No I did create the base before the document and the termbase appear on the editor on left hand side window at the top.
