Hi, I am a new user to Trados and have purchsed SDL Trados Studio 2009 Freelance. In my account I got the links to download Trados 2007, Trados 2009 and MultiTerm Desktop 2009 SP4 which is all fine.

My first installation went wrong (especially with MultiTerm) so I decided to re-install my OS and start fresh again.

After reading the installation guides carefully, I understand that I still have to install Trados 2007 to make some functions work in Studio 2009 but I would prefer not having to install an older version if it is not essential. The guides are not clear about this as in one place it says 2007 "must" be installed and on the website help it says it is "recommended".

1) Can I install Trados 2009 & MultiTerm 2009 without 2007?

2) If so, should I install Trados 2009 first and then MultiTerm 2009 or vice versa? (The guide is not clear about this)

3) What will I miss out on if I decide not to install 2007?

4) Are there any technical issues with Trados 2009 and MultiTerm 2009 if I don't install Trados 2007?

5) What are the benefits if I do install 2007?

Any feedback and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks and have a nice day.

I would install both Jul 5, 2011

I'm just installing SDL on my new machine, so I have the same alternative.
In fact I have never used Studio yet, but use Trados 2007 and SDLX daily.
I installed first the most recent package, but noticed I still need to install 2007 and Multiterm seperately, which I did from an older download.
I don't know if it really matters but I would first install Trados and then MT.

You will need Trados Workbench if you get ttx-files and want to use Wordfast Pro or other comparable tools (which I prefer).

And if you are lucky you find clients who want you to use SDLX, which is a very solid product, and you are paid full for every word that is no 100% match.

Hope your installation will work now!
