Hi all,

I have a TM that was sent to me for a fairly large project and I would love to use it, but it's from trados 2007. At the moment I do not have trados 2009, and I can't afford it. Is there anyway to use this memory with another program?

Format? Jul 21, 2011

Hi,

Is this a TXT (1 file), TMX (1 file) or a TMW (5 files) Translation Memory? If it's a TMX then most tools will be able to use it, and if it's one of the other two then you may have to convert it to TMX first. But it does depend on the tool... some can handle the TXT too.

What format is the file and what tool do you use now?

Regards

Paul

.rar Jul 21, 2011

The file name appears as ES-EN_financiero.rar on the download page. After download it shows up as an omegaT file I would assume that is tmx, but when I try to add it as my tm the file nothing happens because omegat can't locate the file.

Perhaps SDLTM? Or MDB (SDLX Memory).

No external solution for TMW, but all other formats can be opened with other programs.

Zip file... Jul 21, 2011

Hi Alex,
This looks like a zip file. If you unzip it you'll be able to see what the TM is.

Hi Selcuk,
I didn't consider that... but Alex said Trados 2007. Can you open sdltm and use it with DVX?

Regards

Paul

SDLTM and DVX Jul 21, 2011

Hi Paul,

Not yet, but I can convert them easily through xml or xls. And if I can do that then it will not take more than half an hour for DVX engineers to create an import (and even export) filter for sdltm. But as you know it is a matter of priorities for engineers.

Hi Selcuk,

Priorities indeed... will be interesting to see it when they do.

Compressed RAR file Jul 22, 2011

That suggests it is a RAR file -- compressed, similar to Winzip.
See http://www.rarlab.com/rar_file.htm
You will need the RAR software to decompress the file first. It may well turn out to be a TMX file.
