I have in the past successfully exported Trados memory to .txt file type (opens in notepad). But now when I do it, the memory is exported to some unknown application which has a windows logo inside the icon.

The menu options I'm given for exporting the memory is:

1) Translator's Workbench 7.x/8.x (*.txt)
2) Translator's Workbench 2.x/6.x (*.txt)
3) TMX 1.1 (*.tmx)
4) TMX 1.1 (*.tmx)
5) TMX 1.4b (*.tmx)

I've tried options 1 and 2....same result.

.txt files no longer "connected" to notepad Sep 18, 2011

Hello Hélène,

maybe the problem does not concern the export (since the two options you chose result in .txt files) but the "connection" of txt files to notepad you may have inadvertently changed?
Can you open the export in Word?

In order to "re-connect" .txt and notepad, do the following under Windows XP (menu points translated by me since I use a German version):
1. Open Windows Explorer and select the folder where your .txt export is stored
2. Right-click on the. txt file and select "Open with"
3. From the menu choose "Select program"
4. A list with programs is shown.
a) If "Notepad" is one of it, select it and mark the option "Always open this file type with the selected program"
b) If "Notepad" is not among the listed softwares, click on the "Search" button and navigate to the folder where "Notepad" is stored. Then click on the .exe file.
