Ok, maybe this an errant/silly question, but I need to know whether or not my client will be able to open an SDL XLIFF file that I will create in Trados Studio 2011 using in their TS2009. Perhaps this is obvious, but I thought I'd ask before I accept this project.

Yes, you can open a single sdlxliff file in 2009 that you have created in 2011.

same XLIFF structure
Nov 11, 2011
Hi Magdalena, The XLIFF files have the same structure in both 2009 and 2011. So open a bilingual file from 2011 with 2009 or from 2009 with 2011 will work.
Where problems can occur, is at the back-conversion stage. For some filetype, you won't be able to generate a target translation file in the original format on the other version of Studio. You will have then to generate the target file yourself.
