Ok, maybe this an errant/silly question, but I need to know whether or not my client will be able to open an SDL XLIFF file that I will create in Trados Studio 2011 using in their TS2009. Perhaps this is obvious, but I thought I'd ask before I accept this project.

Yes, you can open a single sdlxliff file in 2009 that you have created in 2011.

Should I expect any problems?

same XLIFF structure Nov 11, 2011

Hi Magdalena,
The XLIFF files have the same structure in both 2009 and 2011. So open a bilingual file from 2011 with 2009 or from 2009 with 2011 will work.

Where problems can occur, is at the back-conversion stage. For some filetype, you won't be able to generate a target translation file in the original format on the other version of Studio. You will have then to generate the target file yourself.

Sébastien
