Hi all,

As the number of the threads in this forum grows rather quickly, I suggest creating an index of problems/ solutions.

I will maintain the index and would highly appreciate everybody's help with this. If you know a thread where a specific problem and it's solution are described and you think it will be useful to have this in the index, please kindly post here the link.

The index will be a sticky thread. I suggest something like this:

1. Trados 2007 Toolbar disappears in WORD
http://www.proz.com/topic/158614

2. Studio: Problem loading a word file (tracked changes error)
http://www.proz.com/topic/212284
http://www.proz.com/topic/212308

3. Studio: Google Translator not working in Studio
http://www.proz.com/topic/209594
http://www.proz.com/topic/211675

The topics may be sorted by software versions etc. Any additions, suggestions or other ideas?

Natalia

Brilliant idea Nov 17, 2011

Hi Natalie,
this is a brilliant idea. I have just made a comment in the same vein to the moderators!
I appreciate that we regular readers of the forum are familiar with these frequent problems, but often the reposter is someone who is not a regular reader or contributor who is in a desperate hurry to find a solution to meet a deadline.
Good luck with the venture, it will improve this forum greatly.
Jim

There is Google already Nov 18, 2011

Most of the times these solutions can be found by googling, but the problem is, that we do not search but post right away a question when something happens.
So how do make sure the persons who need the solution go and use your index?

Someone should do something to the search function on Proz.com. It is pretty useless most of the time.

Absolutely! I like Natalie's idea, though.

I hear where you're coming from on the index but might it just be an extra layer which people will skip over due to time constraints - like FAQs on websites? Personally I would also recommend improving the search function on Proz.com which has never found me anything I've looked for, Googling invariably gets me better results. I agree that the number of SDL Trados questions have exploded and are taking over the whole forum and it makes sense to organise these into a system that is useful to all users.

Splendid idea! Nov 18, 2011

Prozcom forum has good, helpful answers to translators' problems given by experienced translators.

It should be easy to find the topics when you need them.
(Usually you need a solution in a short time).

I hope this topic will have a good discussion and give good results.

It could start by choosing answers which have been successful.

Prozcom people could thinkk about it.

This is quite an important matter !

kind regards

I agree Nov 18, 2011

with your idea, Natalie.

Googling is great, but the people who ask about "Trados tool bar disappeared in Word" and "How do I get rid of all of tags" haven't been to Google and probably haven't even searched Proz.

I know the "tool bar disappeared" issue is already a sticky thread, but it could be indexed as you suggest, Natalie, and here are a few threads on the "How do I get rid of all of tags" issue:
http://www.proz.com/forum/sdl_trados_support/197234-tags_in_trados_2009.html
http://www.proz.com/forum/sdl_trados_support/210799-how_do_i_get_rid_of_all_the_tags_in_studio_2011.html
http://www.proz.com/forum/sdl_trados_support/202334-[solved]_too_many_tags_for_fonts_after_importing_in_studio_2009.html
http://www.proz.com/forum/sdl_trados_support/189614-pdfs_in_studio_2009_are_full_of_tags.html

Best,
Emma

The index is a good idea in principle though. I just hope it doesn't prove too labour-intensive for you.

Splendid idea! Nov 18, 2011

It will make life much easier for everyone who uses this forum.
Just one suggestion - let's not mix Trados 2007 with Studio 2009 - the problems and solutions are usually different.

Cheers
S

One for you list Nov 23, 2011

Hi Natalie,
maybe you should consider adding this one:
http://www.proz.com/forum/sdl_trados_support/203177-how_to_import_customers_tag_setting_file_ini_in_2009.html.

It contains a PDF with instructions and workflows for working is Studio 2009 using customer-supplied ttx files.
Best wishes
Jim

I am still not convinced that people really need this.
