Hi all,
I am translating a .doc file which contains many forms. I had never used nor translated this type of file before.
First I couldn't even see the texts in these fields, later I found out that I could see them using ALT F9.
But Trados still can't see them, it processes the file as if these text fields didn't exist.
Can anybody tell me how to solve this?

Thank you!

The fields do not have any text content Dec 5, 2011

They are variables (functions) and thus not editable in Trados Studio.
You need to edit them directly in Word.

Thank you, Jerzy Dec 5, 2011

It's a shame, because it's a lot of text with a lot of repetitions...

Thank you for your time.

If the fields do contain just text... Dec 5, 2011

You can copy their content to another Word file and translate it there.
Afterwards you will need to insert it of course back, but if the text is repetitive it may work well.
Otherwise I would not know, that any Trados version would ever have had managed tzo translate field contents.
On the other hand however it could be feasible to ask the customer why the text is in the fields and not as text.

Thanks again! Dec 5, 2011

I'll started editing the file and copying/pasting the repetitions.
It takes some time but it works.
I just miss auto-propagation!

Thank you!

You can also use T-Window for Clipboard Dec 5, 2011

From T2007 or for Studio, available via OpenExchange on www.sdl.com

However, when you ask the customer why the fields and he would allow you to replace fields by their content for the purposes of translation, you would be on the winner side.

Didn't know this feature Dec 5, 2011

This is new for me. I'll try this feature!

And of course, I will ask the client about replacing the fields.

You are very kind, and helpful.
Thanks a lot!
