Multiterm, Unexpected error while charging...

Hello,

A Multiterm issue again, although I suspect that this time my computer is part of the problem. After a crash of my PC the other day, Multiterm won't start anymore. Instead an error message like this appears: "Unexpected error while charging application plug-in" (it comes up in German "Während des Ladens der Anwendungs-Plug-ins ist ein unerwarteter Fehler aufgetreten", if anyone with a german language localised computer knows the problem).

I deinstalled and reinstalled Multiterm 9 as I did not find a repair feature as in old times. Alas, it didn't help.

Apparently, the termbase is still working as the terms are suggested as usual in workbench.

Any ideas?

Elmar

Unexpected error while loading... Jan 18, 2012

Maybe renaming the following files will help:
C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL MultiTerm\8.1.0.0\BaseSettings.xml
C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL MultiTerm\8.1.0.0\UserSettings.xml
in Windows 7 and MT 2009 without SP1
or the same paths, but versio 8.5.0.0

Obviously you need to close MT before you rename the files.

Renaming Jan 18, 2012

Hello Jerzy,

Thank you for your quick reply. But what names should I give those files? Or maybe just deleting them will help?

Deleting changes the user profile and you will not be able to restore it... Jan 18, 2012

Rename to whatever, the easiest way is always to change the extension from xml to xm_ - this way the file remains and can be easily restored.

Renamed Jan 18, 2012

I just put a 01 ending to the file names, but Multiterm still does not work.
Thanks anyway

Do you have a parallel installation of Trados 2007 on your system? Jan 18, 2012

If so, you should also have Side-by-Side tools then...

They are used to activate MT 2007 or MT 2009 Jan 19, 2012

Locate the file C:\Program Files (x86)\SDL\SDL MultiTerm\MultiTerm8\SideBySide\_Activate2009.cmd
and let it run by right clicking on it and chosing "Als Administrator ausführen".
If this does not help, take the "_Repair2009.cmd" one.

Good to know Jan 23, 2012

Thank you Jerzy,

It's good to know that there is a repair function in Trados/SDL 2009, too. In former versions it was directly visible in the install menus and you did not have to look it up in the folders. Alas, this did not make Multiterm run again either this time. Never mind, thank you very much for your time and help. I'll just reinstall the whole 2007/2009 package in a quiet moment.

Do you have the latest version? Jan 23, 2012

Before you reinstall check, if you have the latest version of Multiterm - this should be SP4 AFAIR.

it was the file plugincache May 30, 2012

Just for the record,

Months later I returned to my problem. How taking distance from a problem may help sometimes!

In the folder mentioned by Jerzy, there is also a file called "plugincache". After renaming that file, Multiterm started without problems and created a new file.

Thank you Jerzy

problem also exists in Trados (2011), fixed Apr 10, 2016

Thanks for the above replies. They helped me solve the same problem with Studio 2011.

In my case the solution (workaround?) was to rename a different file:
C:\Program Files (x86)\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\Studio2\pluginconfig.xml

(I did notice that the file does NOT regenerate, so renaming it may have some unintended consequences.)
