Studio 2011 update failed & access to path denied

Hi all,

I recently had a virus on my computer. This has been now been cleared. However, one of the symptoms of the virus was that it made a great many files 'hidden'. I have managed to unhide most of these but some anomalies persist.

Unfortunately, and perhaps unrelated to the 'hidden' files aspect of the virus (I mention it as it might be relevant), some of the problems are with Trados.

I am currently using Studio 2009, have downloaded Studio 2011 and would like to make the switch from the former to the latter. In order to resolve the problems described below, I tried a complete reinstall of Trados Studio 2011, but to no avail.

When I open Studio 2011, I get the following message:

Update failed. The AutoUpdate process cannot contact any servers for updates. HTTP operation failed. Could not open the destination file for writing. HTTP status code 200. Windows Internet API error code 5. Error was 'Access is denied.'. URL

I know I can switch off AutoUpdate under Tools > Options, but strictly speaking I would like it to AutoUpdate, and I'd like to get to the bottom of all these little niggles.

The second issue is that when I go to close Studio 2011 I get the following error message:

Error. Access to the path C:\Documents and Settings\Will\Application Data\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\\plugincache.xml is denied.

I have to do Ctrl + Alt + Delete and end programme to shut Studio 2011 down.

Any ideas what's gone wrong for either or both of these issues?

I just started getting the first error you mention yesterday after using a VPN service.
I have no clue if that triggered it, but that was the only thing I did differently in my routine.

Some posters recommended manual updates on my thread, but like you, I would prefer auto updates.
