Hello,

could somebody please tell me how to insert German quotation marks? They seem to have disappeared from my toolbar and I can't find them anywhere.
Thanks, U. Möller

ALT-Codes Mar 12, 2012

Ich habe mir angewöhnt, immer ALT+0132 und ALT+0147 zu verwenden - das klappt in jeder Software, ohne dass ich mir über irgendwelche Einstellungen Gedanken machen muss.

Layout Mar 12, 2012

Use the German or US(International) layout. With the latter, you can type „“” by pressing, respectively, AltGr+j, AltGr+k, AltGr+l.

Depends Mar 13, 2012

It depends on your operating system. Read this Microsoft’s guide: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306560/en-us

Oops, sorry! Mar 13, 2012

I’m sorry, I’ve misguided you. The Windows version of US(Int'l) enables only typing «» (AltGr+[ and AltGr+] respectively) and ‘’ (AltGr+( and AltGr+) respectively). The „“” chars are available with Ilya Birman’s layout (I use my own modification of it, but it does not support German letters).

I prefer the ALT combinations, because they work everywhere, at any time. In my Studio installation, CTRL+6 currently adds a "subscript off" tag. Sometimes, it doesn't do anything at all. Never changed nor used any QuickInsert settings.

Don't work here Mar 13, 2012

ctrl + 6 doesn't do anything. I did have these quick Inserts at one stage, only the German quotation marks seem to have disappeared since I used Studio the l ast time....

What filetype are you translating? Mar 13, 2012

Hi,

If you are not working on a file that supports the quick insert for these then perhaps this is the reason. I guess you could use AutoHotkey for something like this if all else is failing you? There is a well costomised script already available that does incorporate these.

It's untested with Studio so I have no idea how many shortcuts might clash with things you have in Studio already, but it looks really comprehensive and might be a useful addition to your armoury.

Regards

Paul

Format dependance Mar 13, 2012

As Paul states, it depends on the format of the file you translate.
But in most formats CTR+6 does deliver you a pair of German quotes.
Of course if you prefer alt codes, that is fine. I am also using alt codes for many special characters. Still there is no reason not to be aware, that you CAN have those by a shortcut.
