I had to reinstall my operating system (Windows 7 64-bit) from scratch, thereby deleting all content on my hard drive. I now reinstalled Trados Studio 2009, which I purchased less than two years ago via a ProZ group purchase. When I try to activate it, I get a message "Activation failed because maximum license numbers exceeded." The old installation of Studio 2009 no longer exists, so I should be able to reuse the license number for the reinstallation. How do I fix this problem?

Returned licence? May 29, 2012

Did you return your licence before reinstalling your OS? If you didn't, you've lost your licence and will have to ask SDL to reset it.

Check in "My Account" on the SDL website to see if you have an extra activation available.

If you haven't got any activations left, then go to http://kb.sdl.com/ and click on the solution finder tab. Go to Licensing problems>"I have lost one of my license act

Also, you may be able to reset your licence by forcing its return from "My Account". See KB article #4295:

Thanks! May 29, 2012

Thanks so much for your prompt reply. No, I didn't return my license first. I assumed that having the software, as well as the license number, was sufficient for reinstalling (that, by the way, was enough for all other software I reinstalled). I will follow the steps you outlined to solve this problem.
