SDL Trados Studio 2011 SP2 - Slow Thread poster: Nicolas LEFEVRE
|
Hello, I don't know if I'm the only one in this case, but a project analysis with SP2 takes much longer time than with SP1. Is this normal ? Is this linked to new features ? Regards.
You are not alone | Jul 18, 2012 |
I had to stop saving my work frequently, because it took about 5 min every time I pressed CTRL+S. And the file was a simple XML with only a little over 400 words. Analysis takes forever also for some reason. If the new features are slowness and buggyness, then SP2 works perfectly.
I just run an analysis of a small 400 file, and all went just fine.

SP2 works even faster than SP1. Slow work must be due to the settings of your system.

My Studio 2011 SP2 is just fine. I'd say that the overall performance regarding speed has improved, including GUI build-up.

Regards. It must depend on the PC configuration. In my case performances increased slightly. Opening, UI generation, project Window (it took about one minute before on an i7 processor and 16GB ram with a fast HDD; it takes 30 seconds now; one minute also to set a project as completed, slightly less now). What they don't seem to have solved in my case is the incompatibility with some files preventing me from opening Trados/SDL generated files with my Studio in many cases. That is disappointing. But it's faster, although useless in some cases.

It takes too long to prepare the projects and to save. I have uninstalled the SP2 and returned to SP1.

Hello everybody, I also had problems with SP2: in Trados everything is fine, but when I try to open Multiterm Desktop, a window appears saying that the program has stopped working. Has anybody the same problem? What should I do to unistall the SP2? Unistall the complete program and install again the old version? Or is there another to way? Thank you in advance, Paola

Extremely slow saving | Jul 19, 2012 |
This is what I received from SDL Trados Support when I pointed out that it took ages to save a file, a time I cannot afford: Thanks for all the updates. So, I am now wasting a bit more time uninstalling SP2 and reinstalling SP1... Later addition: Uninstalled SP2 and reinstalled SP1. Took some doing, SP2 must be fully uninstalled first (from the Windows Control Panel), you can't just install SP1 on top of SP2 (whereas you can the other way around, obviously). Back to a big 49,000-word file I am working on, saving time is now down from 7 minutes and 45 seconds to 2.25 seconds. Until SDL fixes this huge bug, they can keep SP2.

The problem was not there before | Jul 20, 2012 |
I was working on a large ~50000 word project with lots of small files, it used to take seconds to save files before. I closed the program, installed SP2, and now it takes minutes to save the files. SP2 is much much slower for me for some reason. Natalie wrote: SP2 works even faster than SP1. Slow work must be due to the settings of your system.
