translating .idml texts with Trados 2009

Dear colleagues,
I am trying to open an .idml file with Trados 2009 and I get the error that this sort of files is not admitted. Does anyone know what the problem can be and help me please? I need to hand in the translation on Monday. My e-mail villa17es@yahoo.es

opening .idml files Aug 3, 2012

you should rename the idml file .zip and open it. Once opened you will find various xml files. XML are, as you know, supported by Trados.

There are several versions of IDML (CS4, CS5 etc.). Maybe the one you have is not supported by Studio 2009. See:

If so, you either need to upgrade to Studio 2011 or to use another tool that supports your IDML.

Yes, I think I need to use Trados 2009 SP3 as I only have SP1. Do you know where can I download it? I have tried at the SDL page but I cannot do it.

Maybe worth checking which IDML you have first? Aug 4, 2012

Hi,

Studio 2009 SP3 CU14 supports up to CS5.5. For CS6 you need Studio 2011 SP2. You can check the version of IDML you have by opening the IDML (add a .zip to the end and look inside). See this KB for instructions on how to do this:
