2009: will TM update when I import edited bilingual file?

I converted an XLIFF file to MS Word and are making changes to the target text. After I import this docx-file into Studio, will the TM update or do I have to do something in order to update the TM?

Why is it that when I try to "Import from MS Word" only sdlxliff-files can be selected?
