Dear,

Please, could you tell me why SDL Trados is not able to open a Memory Translation (sdtm file ) "English -> French", if I want to use it for a translation from French to English ?

Thank you.

Best regards.

I don't know... Nov 8, 2012

But if you want to use that way there are (at least) 2 options.

If is this that you want i can explain to you...
If is just "WHY"... i cannot help:).

Hi,

You need to reverse the languages. There's an Open Exchange Application you can download to reverse the languages http://www.sdl.com/openexchange.

Thank you Bernard.

Ornar, you wrote : "If is this that you want i can explain to you...".
So, do you have another (two?) solution?

Very simple way Nov 8, 2012

Hi, the other (very simple) way is:

export your EN>FR TM to tmx, create a new FR>EN TM, import the tmx.

Regards

Susanne

Thank you for all your answers !

I downloaded "SDLTmReverceLangs" from OpenExchange. No problem.

Ths Susanne's solution is probably the easier and the best way!)

Hi Again Nov 9, 2012

Sorry about the delay.

One solution was mentioned by Bernard Lieber.

The other one:
-Export the memory in tmx and open it with a text editor (like Emeditor - a very useful tool to TM maintenance).
You're going to see that all languages have a language code (example: american english: En-Us; Italian: It-It).

You just have to use Find/replace... and you can change all the languages codes as you want (you can reverse it; change En-Us to En-Gb etc).
Then you just have to import again the TM.

Regards,
Omar
