Hi,
I would like to know whether the Analyse feature in Trados is also able to count words in text boxes within Word files (for examples like those making up a company structure)?

Thank you in advance
Pam

Usually not Aug 11, 2004

As far they are not "linked" as in Pagemaker for example, which is very rarely.
They are treated as graphics.
You can see this, when you process the file with Trados - it does not skip into such textboxes automaticaly. If the cursor is set in such text box you can translate the text within, but when you come to the end, the process stops.

Text boxes were discussed on ProZ in numerous previous cases, for example here: http://www.proz.com/post/155139#155139

Regards
Jerzy

See the following post:

You can easily try that for yourself. Create a new document in Word, insert a text box with a few words, save and analyze it. The wordcount won't be zero.

But it's true that Trados won't jump into text boxes automatically.

Well it's never happened to me Aug 12, 2004

I have to agree with Jerzy. I my experience, Trados completely ignores text boxes in Word and (most of the time) wholly inaccurate word counts anyway.

Could this differ based on version? Aug 12, 2004

My copy of Trados (Freelance 6.5) includes words in text boxes in page analysis but it may be different in older versions. What is the version of your software?

I'm running 6.5 LSP Edition and I've never been able to include text box counts in an analysis, which, given the nature of the documents I work on (rtf files extracted from pdf or SGML originals), is very annoying.
