we have people in our service that work with "SDL Trados Studio 2011". They often get the following error "An error has occured whilst using the translation provider XXX: the translation memory data file engine returned an error: the database file is locked".
The memory is stored on a network share. They get this error when they use the search function "concordance" of when opening a project of when going to a new segment. It also seems that they get this error more often when someone is working from home via a VPN connection. This happens mostly with the largest memories (more than 600000 segments).
What can we do to solve this problem?

The problem is most likely related to lack of controls over sharing a filebased TM. The best solution is to use a Server based TM through GroupShare if you wish to work in this way without any problems.
But if you wish to continue in this way then the sort of things to look for are things like too many users accessing the filebased TM at the same time, antivirus operations, file management operations (backups etc.) in addition to the sort of things to be aware of in this KB article:
