Hello,

My SDL Trados Studio 2011 no longer opens. It loads to the point of showing the message 'Showing application window' and the background is an outline of the main view, but then there's a 'Please wait' window, the background is blank and nothing further happens.

Has anyone else encountered this problem? My colleagues and I run Studio 2011 off a shared drive, but I am the only one having difficulties.

Any help or suggestions appreciated.

Delete 3 settings files Nov 21, 2012

Presuming you restarted your machine and that hasn't worked, then you could try
renaming or deleting the following three XML files from here:

Windows Vista/7: C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\[10.0.0.0]

- BaseSettings.xml
- plugincache.xml
- UserSettings.xml

They'll be regenerated when you start up Studio again, and hopefully this might solve your problem.

How to reopen SDL Trados Studio 2011 Nov 22, 2012

I also met this kind of problem days ago and have found out how to treat it.
uninstall "Java 7" or
Open "Control panel"
click "Programs"
click "Java" control panel
click "Java" tab
click "view" button
uncheck Java runtime 1.7
Ok!
Because SDL Studio 2011 only needs Java 6, not 7.

Thanks - I've tried that, but the result is that it makes even less progress in loading.

Java Nov 22, 2012

I have the following Java 2 Runtime Environments installed:

v1.4.2_15
v1.4.2_19

and Java 6 update 24

I don't seem to have an option to disable them, just to remove.

Log a support case Nov 22, 2012

You are entitled to free support for installation and licensing problems.
Go to http://kb.sdl.com/
Click on the solution finder tab and go through the steps until you come to a form that you can fill in. SDL will contact you by email to help you sort this out.

I submitted a support case around the time I posted my question. Unfortunately, SDL has not suggested anything other than deleting the 3 xml files and running a repair (which ran into the following error: 'Nalpeiron Licensing Service' (nlsX86cc) could not be installed').

I suspect it may be an admin rights issue and/or related to recent updates of other software.
