I'm planning to buy Windows 8 due to the cheap upgrade price. Can I install Trados Studio 2009 on it? Will everything work properly?

Of course it will work. Even Trados Studio 2011 works well with Windows 8.

I know that Studio 2011 works but that's the newest one, so they must keep that one up to date.
Have you tried to install and use Studio 2009 on Windows 8 yourself?

Officially we do not support SDL Trados Studio 2009, SDL MultiTerm 2009, SDL Trados 2007 or SDLX on Windows 8, we have not tested these versions on Windows 8 so users install and use them at their own risk, without guarantee of it working nor full support from SDL.
Having said this we have not had to make any serious changes to Studio 2011 because W8 should support applications that ran on W7... so I see no reason why it shouldn't work. However, if you have is... See more Hi Thor,

However, if you have issues running these older versions on Windows 8 then we would recommend that you upgrade to the latest versions of our software which are SDL Trados Studio 2011 and SDL MultiTerm 2011 as these have been tried and tested by SDL on this platform to ensure there are no problems as a result of the platform.

...at least that's what I've heard from others.
I'm using Windows 8 and Trados Studio 2014 now and that works very good for me.
