Dear friends,

After creating a SDL Studio 2011 project, with php-files, symbols appears instead of the letters ç, õ, etc. (like in instruções for instruções).

Can someone help me solving the problem?

Many thanks!

Turian

Character set Jan 29, 2013

I don't know what kind of character set is used in your php file, but see http://www.w3schools.com/tags/ref_charactersets.asp and http://www.w3schools.com/tags/ref_entities.asp. Usually you could just change a few strings in your php file to change encoding and language and then you can use all special characters withouth problems.

You probably need to change encoding from UTF-8 to ISO-8859-1.

Yes, “instruções for instruções” is consistent with UTF-8 strings being misinterpreted as ISO-8859-1 (or more likely ISO-8859-15 since the euro is probably expected to appear somewhere).

So assuming that Turian actually ran the PHP code (as opposed to just trying to open it in a text editor to check) changing the character set to ISO-8859-1 (or rather 15) is probably the correct thing to do, though in this day and age the more correct thing is more likely to make sure the PHP file uses UTF-8. The only person who will know what is really the correct thing to do is probably the client.

In this case I am the client myself

Someone is doing my own website, witch I want to translate.

He just gave me the php files.
I will speak to him and try to see if he can solve the problem for me.
