Hi All,

I must now ask the community, because nobody could help me, including Internet.
I browsed nearly 3 000 pages and links - nothing. But the problem is always there, completely blocking my work. So I cry SOS!

I use three Trados versions - 5 and Suite 2007, than Studio 2009. They are installed since always and have caused no problems. But one day...

I launch Trados 5. I read:

SmartHeap Library
---------------------------
MEM_BAD_POINTER
---------------------------
OK Cancel
---------------------------

Clicking on OK button changes nothing. Clicking on Cancel gives that:

---------------------------
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
---------------------------
Runtime Error!
Program: J:\Program Files\TRADOS\T5_FL\TT\TW4Win.exe
abnormal program termination

Well, I launch Trados 2007.
And I have this:

---------------------------
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
---------------------------
Runtime Error!

Program: J:\Program Files\SDL International\T2007\TT\TW4Win.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

Repairing, de-installing and re-installing programs changes nothing once more.
The self-registering bats gave me same errors.
Launching any 2007 program from within Studio (ex.gr. WinAlign) gives same errors again.
Installing runtime libraries C++, MS NET.Framework - alls versions, all verified - no effect.
Changing mfc80u.dll gives another error about pointer 267 not found.

As clients often send me .tmw files, I cannon convert them for use in Studio. Besides, I have a huge termbase for Trados 5 - I cannot use it. Finally, Studio is too havy for small files - I just explain the reasons of using 3 versions.

If anybody (Jerzy, do you read me?) has any idea, I accept absolutely all of them because I have already spent about 300 hours trying to find a soilution.

Thanks in advance to all.

Sincerely,

Yury

Excuse me my silly question... Mar 2, 2013

Why on earth do you need Trados 5 if you have the 2007 version and Studio?

System restore Mar 2, 2013

Sorry, I don't know how to solve the error messages you're getting, but you could always try a system restore to take your machine back to a point at which Trados was working OK.

Another solution for the time being would be to upgrade your .tmw TMs in Studio or use them directly, as read-only TMs using this SDL Exchange app:
http://www.translationzone.com/en/openexchange/AppDetails.aspx?appid=261#tab1

Not solutions to your problem, I know, but maybe these ideas will help a bit?

Thank you for you reply - it really does not solves my problem.

Some precisions for all: I'm under Windows XP Pro, 4 Gb of RAM, no firewall, no viruses, no spybots (every day scan).

Errors Mar 2, 2013

What are the errors when selfregistering? Did you run it as Administrator?

I'm the unique user, Administrator by default.
And I have exactly same errors as described in my first post.

Not With a DOS Prompt Mar 2, 2013

Right-click on the DOS prompt and you'll see Run As Administrator, even if you're the Administrator under Windows XP, you're not under DOS. Browse to the folder where your Selfregister.bat file is located and then run it - error messages should disappear.

What do you mean by "Right-click on the DOS prompt"?
If you mean Command prompt, I have DOS errors during execution of the batch file and than Windows errors exactly the same.
Windows is based on DOS, however XP ot so much, and I repeat - I'm Administrator. DOS does not have such rights. Besides, registry writing goes under Windows, not DOS.

I'm in computers since 25 years, you know.
Nevertheles, thank you for your advice.

Try This Mar 2, 2013

Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> DOS Prompt - right-click on DOS Prompt - the popup has several options, select Run As Administrator, in the window that opens, move to the directory where your Selfregister.bat file is located - you need to use DOS commands CD\ etc. to move to the right directory, then select the bat file and run it.

If not clear enough, give me the path and I'll give you the commands to get there.

Have you read my message ? I am Administrator by default, that's is shown in the Command prompt window. And as the .bat execution goes through Windows, I have same errors as described above, DOS mode or not.

Besides, Trados 5 registation file is NOT executed in DOS mode - there is another error message. Besides of besides, what could happen that both of my programs went suddenly wrong?

Yes, it does. Because when I log on, I do it as Administrator with all the rights.

Once again, I use these programs for 10 years for some. NEVER I has had those problems. What is the reason now? I have not to self-register them - normally it is done durig the installation. And this batch file is NOT executed under DOS, it starts in DOS shell, which is part of Windows. XP has virtually nothing to do with DOS, it is not Windows 95.
I'd like to know what goes wrong with the virtual machine, with NET. Framework, with the runtime C++ to cause this problem. Unfortunately I don't know all Trados entries in the registry to inspect and/or correct them, despite of all my experience.

I said in my first message that I accept all the ideas - it's still right, and I'm grateful to anybody replying to me - to you as well, Natalie.

Any more ideas?
Pleeease...
