A client has just sent a round-robin e-mail to its translators warning that material spell-checked in Studio still retains errors that need ironing out with a spell-check in Word, something I have also experienced. The client emphasised that the target-format document should be selected entire to choose the checking language. For this purpose it suggested choosing first the source language, then re-selecting, using the target language, to make sure that the document really is spell-checked afresh.

Since the client was acting in response to its in-house revisers' complaints of poor spell-checking, I feel that the point ought to be made here, so as to warn colleagues of this pitfall.

I perform a spell-check with each change of format or processing environment, especially on the deliverable in final form.

I hope this helps. A French translation is supplied below.

With kind regards,

You can use the same spell-checking engine than in Microsoft Word (and an alternative one, Hunspell, which you should update manually), so this procedure is entirely redundant
