A client has sent me a tmw Translation Memory and I work with Studio 2009. So I have to upgrade the TM.

I tried to import it with the Legacy Converter, but it did not work. I think the Legacy Converter
does not accept tmw files.

Upgrade TM Apr 29, 2013

I think you need to use the upgrade TM tool in Trados 2009.

Perhaps look at this

If you only have Studio 2009... Apr 29, 2013

... then as Nathan referred to in the other thread, you need to use Tools -> Upgrade Translation Memories and you also need to have SDL Trados 2007 Suite installed. You will find this option in the menu bar when you open Studio.

Studio 2011 does not require Trados 2007 at all for this operation, but Studio 2009 does.

Another alternative is to export the TMW to TMX in Trados 2007 and then create a new Translation Memory in Studio 2009 which you can import the TMX into.

The Legacy Converter application you have tried is for converting a Studio bilingual file (an SDLXLIFF) into a Bilingual Doc(x)/TTX/TMX file. It is not for converting from Translation Memories of any kind.

Paul

Maybe the problem is that the TM is compressed May 1, 2013

Hi,

thank you for your answers. I tried ist with Trados 7 and with the Upgrade Tools.
It did not work. When I try it in Trados 7 and I go to open TM it seems hat the system cannot find the Tm. In Trados Tools in the beginning it seems to work, but than the computer stands still and it is neither possible to go on with the operation nor to finish it. Maybe the problem is, that the TM is compressed. The compressed TM is a tmw, but inside there are mwf, mtf, mdf and iix Index files.

You mean it's zipped? May 1, 2013

Hi,

In this case you first have top unzip the file into a folder on your desktop so that you have the five files that comprise a 2007 TM available. Then try and upgrade the TM again by selecting the TMW from Studio in the folder that now contains the unzipped files.

If you double click the zipped folder it will probably unzip it for you.

Paul
