Dear all,
Hope you can help me with this question:
I would like to change a translation by directly editing the TM segments and then update the document with the updated TM.
It is a large document, it would take ages to use find&replace (repeated term).
Is there a way to do this with Studio 2011? Or does anyone recommend a work-around for this?

Thank you all for your help!

Best,
Bárbara

Search & Replace May 14, 2013

Hi Bárbara,

Why can't you use Search & Replace? There is a replace all so if you just have lots of repeated terms it's straightforward. In fact with the ability to use regex as well to some extent it's more powerful than editing the TM.

Regards

Paul

Not just a term May 14, 2013

Hi Paul,

thank you for your answer.
The issue is, it isn't just a term, it is a more complex structure. In Trados 2007 I would edit the translation unit and then update the document, it worked pretty well.
Is there a similar way to do this in Studio?

Thank and regards,
Bárbara

ok... two ways. May 15, 2013

Hi Barbara,

You can edit the TU in the TM Results window as you work by right-clicking on the TU and selecting Edit. But based on your requirement to be able to search for TUs then you should probably use the Translation Memories view:

Basic operations for you are these:

1. Click here to activate this window
2. Right-click in here and open the TM you want to edit
3. You can search many ways in here, and also create filters
4. You make your changes directly in here

Things to watch out for.

The view will only display one page at a time, and the number of TUs in a page is determined by the value you have in Tools -> Options -> Translation Memories View. The default is 50.

To move between pages you can use the small navigation bar at the top left underneath File, Edit, Maintenance, View.... The default shortcuts are Alt+Right and Alt+Left to move right and left through the pages.

As you edit the TUs they will be temporarily flagged for change and once you are ready you commit the changes by using Maintenance -> Commit Changes.

Hopefully that gives you what you need?

Regards

Paul
