Currently I use the Word spelling checker in Studio 2011. But it would be nice if I could use also the inbuilt checker of SDLX, because it seems to have less mistakes at least for Finnish.
Is it possible?

Hello Heinrich,

It's not currently possible to "easily" add custom spell checkers to Studio so you can't do this at the moment. I guess you could open the original file in SDLX and then translate the ITD in Studio so you can use the final file in SDLX for spell checking... but this may not be a clever workaround.

It will become easier in a future release for a developer to add custom spell checkers as plugins to Studio so when this happens perhaps someone will find it helpful to add SDLX as an option... or maybe some other spell checker that is more reliable for some languages than Microsoft or Hunspell.

Regards

Paul

By default, SDLX uses MS spellchecker, so IMO it's enough to select MS Word spellchecker in the Studio 2011 options (Studio 2009 offers only Hunspell).
Indeed, the MS spellcheckers are often better than Hunspell, so it's probably your case.

SDLX can also use WinterTree spellcheckers but in the latest SDLX versions they are not provided by default in the setup file i.e. they must be downloaded ans installed separately.
They should be available somewhere on the SDL FTP servers.
If they're not not installed, the language list is empty in the SDLX spelling options.
See e.g.:
http://www.proz.com/forum/sdl_trados_support/194410-spell_check_in_sdlx_no_language_in_drop_down_box.html
It's a typical SDL-ish mess related to the software architecture and setup, this window should have been reorganized many years ago, when the SDL guys stopped to bundle the WinterTree stuff with SDLX...

I don't know if Finnish was ever handled in SDLX via WinterTree, I don't have the Finnish in my collection, the SDLX spelling dictionaries I have date from 2004...icon_smile.gif
WinterTree offers also stand-alone spellcheckers but I don't know if they are recognized automatically by SDLX.

Cheers
GG
