When I click on the Trados 2011 icon on desktop the programme fails to load and I get the meassage

An unexpected error has occurred while loading the application plug-ins.

The message states

Failed to load plug in manifest file from 'Sdl. Desktop. Platform. Plugin. Xml: '.' hexadecimal value 0x00. is an invalid character. Line 1 Position 1

'.' hexadecimal value 0x00. is an invalid character. Line 1 Position 1

Luckily I have T2011 installed on a lap top or I'd have been screwed

I'd been working perfectly normally before. On restarting the PC it became impossible to open

Previous Post Aug 9, 2013

Hi William

A previous post on Proz gives this as an option to try:

--------------------------------
try with the following:
delete the file "plugincache.xml"

C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\9.1.0.0\plugincache.xml

or a similar path for Studio 2011.

(you will have to unhide hidden files in Folder Options to be able to find it).

the file you delete will be recreated when you open Studio.
-----------------------------------

Kind regards

Andy.

Thanks Andy but... Aug 9, 2013

...it didn't work. In my case the file was 10.0.0.0, I deleted plugincache.xml (left the other 2 xml files there), didn't make any difference. The same error message comes up highlighting the same errors as before

Or... Aug 9, 2013

OK William, there may be a small xml issue here.

Here's something else you could try:

Rename the projects.xml here C:\Users\[your username]\Documents\Studio 2011\Projects - but only rename, DO NOT delete the file.

Andy.

Reinstall Trados Aug 9, 2013

I would try a Trados reinstall.
Sometimes when Trados crashes, it cuts XML Files and then they are invalid.

Alternativly you could try to rename this file and see if it creates a new one.
C:\Program Files (x86)\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\Studio2\PlugIns\Sdl.Desktop.Platform.Plugin.Xml

Or I could send you my version, but also not sure if that helps (remy AT supertext DOT ch)

But in any case, open the file in a text editor (notepad++) and check if it ends with:

Good luck

Remy

After discussion... Aug 9, 2013

Hi

After discussing with a colleague here at SDL, he also came up with the 2nd option that Remy suggested.

Go to: C:\Program Files (x86)\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\Studio2\PlugIns
delete/rename the Sdl.Desktop.Platform.Plugin.Xml

Andy.

Tried deleting that xml plugin file... Aug 13, 2013

No joy. Now I get a different message:

Action 'ExitAction' is not registered with the action service. If this is a dynamic action, make sure to call RegisterDynamicAction first

This is really annoying

Seriously wrong... Aug 13, 2013

... for this issue. If you can't use the product (because of a technical reason) you are entitled to free support. So use the Solution Finder and you can log a case for this issue.

Go to the Knowledgebase;

http://kb.sdl.com

Then go to the tab called Solution Finder and now go here;

Download & Installation Problems
- The installation went fine, but now I get an error message when opening or using the program.
-- The error occurs in SDL Trados Studio 2011

Then complete all the fields in the form making sure your email address is entered correctly or nobody will be able to get back in touch with you.

I hope this helps.

If you want direct access to Support whenever you like then you can pay for a support contract.

Regards

Paul

William, just wondering if you found a solution to this Aug 25, 2013

as the same thing has happened to me, but with the 2009 version. I'm in the middle of a project too, so not happy!

Not really Tortola... Aug 25, 2013

The SDL Support people were very good and got back to me by email and then phone relatively quickly. They accessed my PC remotely and ran checks and stuff, checked events but found nothing. In the end he reinstalled and since then its OK, fingers tentatively crossed. He had no idea what had caused it or how to stop it though. You might as well back up your TM and reinstall yourself, it will save you a day or so.

I don't know exactly, but it seems a bit of a poor problem given how much we have invested in the programme and updates over the years...

I have the same problem Mar 11, 2016

Hello everyone,

I have the same problem, I tried all the abovementioned suggestions, but either I did something wrong or my error is different.

I am using Windows 7 64-bit.

This is the error I get: http://prntscr.com/adwdsu

Can someone please take a look and maybe try to explain what I might try.

Thanks in advance,

Peter
