Hello,

I'm translating a text for a client, and some parts of the text exist on the client's website, I was wondering if it was possible to get an indication on SDL Trados 2011 for the segments that already exist on the website.

For example, right now in order to check that I have to do it manually via a google search (i.e. "Text I want to check" site:.clientwebsite.com).

You can imagine that this is boring and I was wondering if I could find a way out, by having some software mark segments that already exist.

The website in question is huge and no TMX is provided & I need to keep consistency, hence the request.

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards,

Mohamed

This is a very good question Aug 12, 2013

Have been wondering too recently. My translation was the new part of an existing, huge banking website and no memory was provided. I proceeded in the same way as Mohamed. The only thing I could think about was aligning the whole website, but as it had been done in a CMS the text was separated in small paragraphs of two or three sentences. I made an attempt, it took me too long, but fortunately there was a big site map in both languages, so I aligned just this webpage.

Once I had an idea about the structure of the website, I opened it in both languages and then jumped from one page to another.

If someone has another idea, I am interested too.

Here's an idea... Aug 13, 2013

So the basic idea is to extend what you are doing now to search only the website you want directly from Studio. So if you look at the Widget search provider settings file you will find it has a component for Google that looks like this:

<SearchProvider Name="Google">
<Url>http://www.google.com/search?q={2}</Url>
<Icon>google.png</Icon>
<LanguageMapping Type="None" />
</SearchProvider>

If you change this so it contains the reference to your site then you can select the words/phrases directly in Studio, press whatever shortcut you have for the Widget (Ctrl+Alt+F8 is the one I have set), and then the look up will go directly to the google search results for your site.

<SearchProvider Name="Google">
<Url>http://www.google.com/search?q={2} site:multifarious.filkin.com</Url>
<Icon>google.png</Icon>
<LanguageMapping Type="None" />
</SearchProvider>

So I set this to only search in multifarious.filkin.com. If you wanted to you could simply add this as an additional search provider so you can still use the native Google search as well... so just give this a different name and use both Google and your own custom search.

Might be faster and you can search from source or target which is quite handy as well.

Regards

Paul
