Hello everybody,

My question is regarding upgrading Trados TMs. I have one big TM and a smaller one. Is it possible to upgrade them in a quicker manner? For example, somehow to insert a small TM into a big one?
A traditional process results being too slow.

Thanks a lot.

When you say the traditional process.. Aug 27, 2013

.. what exactly is this?

If you use the Upgrade Translation Memories in Studio you can add as many as you like and have them all merged into one, or into as many combinations as you like. Even differing language pairs will be grouped for you to handle.

Regards

Paul

Thanks but Aug 27, 2013

That´s what I mean Paul - merging two memories into a new one takes too long, in a fact, all day long and I am not sure if this is normal for upgrading memories, even big ones. What I mean is this - it is possible to extract 100% entries of one memory and insert them into another one?
I have one memory having 199 entries and another one of 64.000.

How big ? Aug 27, 2013

From short experience of mine, I can tell you that it took me about 12 hours (I'm not so sure, because I was so so tired that time). The total TU were approx. 1 millions.

So, relax.. and enjoy..

Regards

[EDIT]
Found the exact time I spent (I mean "enjoyed").
That was 8 hours, exactly.

For 65,00 Tus.. Aug 27, 2013

By my wild guess, It should be finished within 1/2 hour.
But, You are saying it took you 1/2 day ?

No more to say.

Regards

[EDIT]
65,000 Tus

... 65,000 TUs shouldn't take more than 5 mins or so. So I have two suggestions. First try this:

Export the small TU to TMX
Import the TMX into your large TM

If that isn't fast, then drop me an email and I'll give you an FP to place the TMs and I'll take a look for you. Really should not take long at all.

Paul's proposal to help is nice... Aug 27, 2013

but unless both TMs are entirely public domain (e.g., Eur-Lex TMs), you will violate (explicit or implicit) confidentiality agreements with your client by passing your TM to third parties.

Best,
Attila
