I am not real familiar with Trados, but have a client asking the following question. Can anybody help?

"How can your translation memory be “Marked” in such a way that a change in terminology is permanent, even when the source language string changes and mandates a change in the target language string?"

An attempt to answer your question Sep 20, 2013

It's a bit hard to understand your question, because if you have segment stored in your translation memory (TM), and then you get a source language segment that is similar but not identical, then the first segment will come up as a fuzzy match and you would translate the 2nd one making changes as necessary.

If your question is more about terminology than TMs, then the answer would be to create a termbase and add the term that you define as "permanent".

Just to clarify, translation memories store whole sentences, and termbases store individual words or terms (that can consist of a few words).

Does that help?
Emma

Emma,

yes thanks. The question from client itself is a little "fuzzy", but i think you've hit on something - separating term base from the "sentence."
