Which file format? Oct 22, 2004

Hi,
I take it you're referring to a file-based dictionary. Which file format is relevant here?

Best regards, Ralf

Hello:

I do not understand what "file format" means. Any file format , as far as I works.

The MultiTerm of TRADOS allows people to input translation pairs and build Termbases. I was wondering if we could import
a whole electronic dictionary (such as MS WORDS, AOL,or the glssaries of Proz etc so that we do not need to type in one by one. Does TRADOS has that capability? How to do it?

Thanks for your willingness to help

Check MT Help for details Oct 22, 2004

Hi again,
You did not specify which MT version you're working on, so I assume you're working on MTiX (6.2.0.x).

I do not understand what "file format" means. Any file format , as far as I works.

I was assuming that you had a particular dictionary which you wanted to import - hence the question regarding the file format. Apparently, this was a more general question.

MTiX has a converter utility called MultiTerm Convert - here's an extract from the related Help function:

MultiTerm Convert is an efficent tool that allows you to convert terminology data to MultiTerm XML format. MultiTerm Convert supports the conversion of terminology data that is stored in MultiTerm 5 or MultiTerm ‘95 Plus format (*.mtw), as well as Microsoft Excel (*.xls) and other database and spreadsheet exchange formats such as tab-delimited text (*.txt) and comma-separated values (*.csv).

The output from MultiTerm Convert consists of a termbase definition file (*.xdt) and a terminology data file (*.xml). After conversion, you can use the termbase definition file in MultiTerm to create a new local termbase. Use the terminology data file to populate the new termbase.

How to find the file with table containing all translation pairs? Oct 22, 2004

Kwei Chang wrote:

Proz.com has a well presented glossary table.
For MSWORD, AOL, world.altavista.com/babelfish...etc
it is not obvious where the tables are. Are they legally obtainable?
