I come across this problem frequently now, and so now I'm having a look at it just after starting, rather than perhaps having to do it in a rush near delivery time next week ...

After exiting Studio 2009 to Word 2010, I find that instead of the automatic table in French in the original, I just have a "TOC" box which I right-click to update, but it says something like I have to apply the styles, and then the TOX box just greys out into "No elements found to update" or something like that. But the titles HAVE been TOC-styled in the body of the text - I can see them in the bar as Title 1, Title 2 etc.

The French text has the full list of titles on the TOC page, of course, but it won't update either. Since it's happened on several occasions with different customers, I imagine it's not always the customer's table problem originally.

What can I do here?

TIA,

Mervyn

Save as Word 2003 Nov 21, 2013

Have seen this before too.

Before importing into Trados, try reformatting as Word 2003 (.doc). Make sure that the TOC is working as a Word 2003 file. Then round trip in Trados to see if the document still hasn't broken. If good, start translation.

It's already in Word 97-2003 Nov 21, 2013

Thanks a lot Tobias - but it's in Word 97-2003 doc format already. I use Word 2010. Quite a few problems in Tag Editor only need a change from doc to docx or vice-versa, and I might try upping the document to docx to see if it makes any difference.

Best,

Mervyn
