Hello, we have the new trados 2014 studio and we need to translate several thousand HTML5 webpages. We need to prevent the translation of the HTML5 outline which is a special set of H tags (heading tags) that define the structure of the HTML page. If the translator translates the HTML 5 outline tags by mistake then it will break the structure of the HTML5 page.

The HTML5 outline in our pages is configured using H2 tags however we also have normal H2 content tags in the pages and this is where the problem lies. The normal H2 content tags need to be translated but the H2 outline tags need to be set to non-translated. We cannot find a way to selective lock some H1 or H2 outline tags but no H1 or H2 content tags. We cannot manually lock these tags because we have 2000+ pages to translate and each page has these 5 outline tags (shown below). This would make it impractical to lock them all manually.

I was hoping that Trados would have designed their new software to be fully up to date with HTML5 and therefore enable the user to specify the non translation of the outline HTML 5 tags only. However it appears they have not thought about this and only given the option for non translation of all H tags in general i.e. we can lock ALL H1, H2, H3 etc tags but NOT be able to specify which H tags WITHIN each H group are to be set non translatable.

What we need is to selectively prevent non translation ONLY of the HTML 5 outline tags shown below however any other normal content H2 normal we want to remain translatable.

We have used H2 tags for our outline however W3C says H1 or H2 can be used as the HTMl 5 outline. We use H1 for the main heading of our page therefore that needs to be translated.

These are our outline tags that need to be locked. We set them as H2 in our pages rather than H1 however as mentioned W3C specification for HTML5 says that they could be H1 tags.

-Tourist Information Guide
-Page Content
-Left Panel (Main Navigation)
-Right Panel

The above content are in configured with H tags that have been assigned a specific class that marks them as Outline headers. The class is called "outlineTitle" i.e.

h2 class="outlineTitle" or h1 class="outlineTitle" we could not put the < or the > in the tag because proz form would not permit us to do so.

The outline class "outlineTitle" has been set in the CSS style sheet so that these special tags are not visible in the actual HTML webpage.

As you can see the outline tags have the outlineTitle class which makes them distinguishable and unique from normal H tags.

I am dissappointed that Trados did not design their new 2014 suite software to enable the user to specifically exclude the HTML5 outline tags (HTML5 structural tags) from being translated. A CAT tool needs to have an option to specify the HTML5 outlines tags specifically and then set them to non-translatable - this would ensure the HTML5 page will render correctly but still allow normal content headings to be translated.

With large companies like Yahoo adopting HTML5 as their standard and many millions of other websites using HTML5 it is essential that a CAT tool can lock or set non translateable the specific HTML5 outline in an automated way. Since HTML5 can use a variaty of H tags e.g. (H1, H2 H3) for both outline or normal content the CAT tool needs to be able to know which one's of these H tags are outline tags and which are content H tags and then specifically set non translateable ONLY the outline tags.

Can anyone think of a possible work around to prevent the translation of the above specific outline tags but still enable us to include normal H tags for translation. Individually locking every occurence of these tags manually is not possible due to the large number of pages we have.

Thank you

John
