Hi,

I am using SDL Trados 2011 and my client is using an earlier version (Trados 2006 or 2007).

When I loaded the English file on my Trados version, I received an error which says:

The file contains "tw4winMark" style used to mark up bilingual documents

With that, I was not able to open the document for translation.

I ticked the option "Process files with tw4winMark style" under File Types but I still get the same error.

Please advise how to resolve this issue.

Thank you.

Best regards,
Stephanie

Don't create a project, open the file Dec 18, 2013

Hi there Stephanie,

I had the same problem last week. This worked for me:

Just go to File --> Open --> Document...

And then just set the language combinations and the TMs you want to use. And voilà!

I hope it helps.

Kind regards,

Patricia

If using Open Document worked... Dec 18, 2013

... then you have most likely made the changes to your settings under Tools -> Options and then added the file in a Project. This will have no effect. If you do this you need to make the changes in the Project Settings, not Tools -> Options (or File -> Options if you have Studio 2014).

The reverse is also true... if you make the change in Project Settings then new Projects, or Open Document will also fail.

There’s a neat explanation on these differences here from Jerzy Czopik : http://wp.me/p2xDjK-fz

Regards

Paul

*.doc or *.docx Dec 18, 2013

Hi

I saw some cases where this problem appears with Word documents in the *.doc format.
If this applies to you, open them in Word and save them into the new format *.docx.

Then it should work for sure.

Changing the file format from .doc to .docx didn't work Dec 18, 2013

Hi Patricia/Paul,

Unfortunately changing the format and settings didn't work for me. I still get the same error.

I also tried to change the file form to .txt. However, it's missing some texts after loading to Trados.

The errors I received are as follows:

Error 1:

The file contains "tw4winMark" style used to mark up bilingual documents.

Origin: Word 2007 v 2.0.0.0

Error 2:

Segmented paragraph structure is invalid.
Structure of marks in paragraph:''
Paragraph details: "Text in diff language".(Russian)(Russian)"

Not sure how to correct the (Russian) delimeter since it is not the target language I am translating to. Im thinking it could be the reason for the errors?

Please advise.

Thanks.

Best regards,
Stephanie

Hi,

I was able to resolve the issue by doing the following:

-Removed the delimeter and texts in different language
-Saved the file as .docx
-Ticked the "Process files with tw4winMark style"

Thanks again for your inputs.

Happy Holidays!!

Best regards,
Stephanie

KB for that... Dec 19, 2013

Hi Steph

For the error 2 we have an KB article here:
http://kb.sdl.com/kb/article?ArticleId=4263&source=article&c=12&cid=23

Strange that it not appeared from the start, then it would been easier to point to it

Cheers
