Hi all,

Has anyone already used Trados Studio 2011 in Windows 8, with a tactile screen?

Before buying a new laptop, I would like to know if that functionality works fine in Studio, especially to zoom in for segments of very tiny characters (happens quite often with PDF documents).

Thanks a lot for any feedback on that matter.
Sylvie

Hi Sylvie,

You don't actually need a touchscreen to do this.

In Studio, you can go to Tools>Options>Editor>Font Adaptation and set the font size to whatever you like without affecting the original document. There's a fuller explanation on Emma Goldsmith's blog.

First impressions on Studio/touch screens Feb 7, 2014

I've had Studio 2014 running on a machine with Win 8.1 and a touchscreen for a whole week, (!) so I hadn't investigated Studio's touch screen properties until I read this thread.

My first impressions:
Everything seems to work with the touch screen - the ribbon, icons, word selection, change segment - except scrolling through the editor window. It doesn't seem to respond by sliding my finger up or down the screen. It sort of responds sliding my finger up or down the scroll bar at the side.
MS Word definitely scrolls better than Studio with a finger sliding movement.

This isn't a worry for me because I only use Studio with a keyboard and mouse, but I guess it might be useful for you to know if you're looking into buying a new laptop.

Presumably this all applies to Studio 2011 too, but I haven't tested it.

With regard to the zoom function (or pinching and stretching, in MS language), Studio doesn't have a zoom button as such, so Giles' advice is bang on.

And many thanks, Giles, for mentioning my blog post on this subject!
