SDL Studio "Not responding" after attempting to save term in MT. Grey Screen - how can I save work?

I am working with SDL Studio 2011. I have Multiterm open in the same screen. I attempted to save a word using F2 and F12. Upon hitting F12, my screen has gone transparent grey.

The message at the top says "(Not responding)".

This happened once before. When I shut down Studio I lost all the segments that had not been confirmed. How can I prevent this from happening?

My deadline is looming and if I have to restart all the unconfirmed segments again, I won't make it.

(Does creating a dump file work? Clutching at straws here ..)

Thanks in advance.

Too late this time round (I lost a lot of work and 5 hours because of the crash), but the only solution I have found for avoiding this in the future is to buy Studio 2014. Apparently it has a clever feature called "Autosave" built in.
