Work on en_US and en_GB simultaenously

Hi,

I'm currently revising our translation process in our company. Our translators use Trados(2011) for most of their work, but for some tasks they prefer a customized UltraEdit instance.
The reason they don't want to switch to Trados completely despite it's advantages (TM, spell checking etc.) is that they cannot edit british and american english at once.
In UltraEdit they have our german text in one line, the next two lines are for english and american english respectively. That way they can react to differences easily but can make use of copy&paste for most of the translations.

I tried to search for a possibility to have this kind of "trilangual xliff" workflow in Trados but came up short.
Is there any way to work on those "accents" simultaenously in trados? Or what would the preferred workflow be in Trados?

Any suggestions are appreciated. If I didn't describe the situation good enough, please say so and I will try to elaborate.

Greetings,
Kylab

There is an application... May 14, 2014

... on the SDL OpenExchange called AnyTM. It is available for Studio 2009/2011/2014 and it will allow you to use one TM for all flavours of a language. You can find this here : http://goo.gl/5ia0KE

You can also find a couple of article on how it can be used here :

It's all English... right?

AnyTM… or SuperTM!

In addition to these one excellent use of this tool if you still need to keep a distinction between projects for British English and projects for US English, is to add the single TM using AnyTM to the specific language pairs in a Project. So for example you have a Project from Welsh to en(GB) and Welsh to en(US). In your settings you use one TM Welsh to English (doesn't matter which variant) and add it through the specific language pairs like this:

This way you can do both variants in the same project with the same TM. And in addition you could use a TM Field with attributes for "British" and "American" that are stamped on the TU as you translate automatically. These could be set in here:

I think this would help you achieve the workflow you want.

Regards

Paul
