Hello,

I have faced a technical issue with Trados 2014 and I hope that someone will be able to suggest a solution.

Today I received an .sdlxliff file for proofreading and I successfully managed to complete it in MemoQ. It was done with MemoQ because during the day I didn't have access to my another computer which has Trados installed, but I also didn't want to waste time. So I completed the file and saved it appropriately. Now I have opened it in Trados, but my corrections are not visible, more precisely - all changes and corrections are saved, but they don't appear as track changes. It is important, because my client wants the file back with track changes visible.

The file ends with ...idml_lav.sdlxliff, so it was probably originally made with InDesign.

What can I do?

... I had a good answer to this one but I'm afraid I don't. One of the problems of CAT hopping is that not all features are compatible. memoQ can make use of track changes but it does it in a completely different way to Studio. The track changes in Studio were designed to work in the same way as they do when you work in MSWord, so it's a familiar experience.

If you did the translation in memoQ you have lost this capability altogether now if the client wants an sdlxliff back that contains the changes you have made, all marked up and easy to see.

I guess one thing you could do is open the original sdlxliff with original translation and export it for external review. Then open the one you completed in memoQ and do the same thing. You now have two DOCX files that you could use alongside MSWords compare feature and this would show the changes. There is an article on that feature if you have not seen it before here : http://wp.me/p2xDjK-4W

So if your client is agreeable, in this instance, perhaps you could do that and send them the completed translation in Studio format along with the compare document from Word?

If anyone has a better idea I'd also be very interested to hear it.

Regards

Paul
