Good morning to all,

some of you are probably enjoying the bank holiday, some have to work ....

I have a technical problem:

My client has sent me the word file but has forgotten to send the Trados package (Trados Studio 2014). I have started to translate the word file in Trados, but now today the client sent the package. How can I incorporate what I translated so far? How can I tell Trados to use my TM together with the client's package?

Sorry if this has already been discussed somewhere here, but I could not find it.

Thank you!

Carmen

Project settings Jun 9, 2014

Hey Carmen,

Just go to the Project Settings and then Add File based TM and it's done! Before sending the return package you have to remove it again through the Project Settings.

Cheers,

Maria

I tried that, but... Jun 9, 2014

there was another issue: Apparently I had created my TM in US-English to German, and the package was in UK-English to German.

Thank you, Maria, for your support.
But Trados wouldn't still let me combine TM's.

Is there any way to change the language settings of my TM? I did not find one.

Export / Import TM Jun 10, 2014

Dear Carmen,

there is probably more intelligent way to do it, but I would first try to export the US English TM and then import it into a newly created UK-English into German TM. When this isn't going to work I'll try to create a blank UK-English-German TM, put it as a main memory for my sdlxlif file (the bilingual file) and then click batch task update main TM. Just play with different approaches. One of them will certailny work at the end.

Good luck!

Maria

Carmen, my solution would be the following:

1. export your EN-US memory to .tmx.
2. in a text editor, for example Notepad++ (freeware), open the .tmx and search/replace all the [EN-US] codes to [EN-GB].
3. once done, import your edited .tmx to a fresh memory with the correct language settings.

this is pretty straight-forward and will only take you a few minutes.
good luck!

The client has now settled with using using the SDLXLIFF files but for future projects your tipps and aproaches are very helpful.

Much appreciated! It's good to learn the odd Trados trick
