Dear community,
after installing Studio 2014 (beside 2011) all Studio specific file symbols in the Windows explorer windows are gone (= are now blanc). This affects the symbols for sdlxliff-files as well as for the project packages. To open the files (= Studio) by double click is no longer possible, unless I associate manually all SDL files with Studio 2014. But especially for return project packages the file symbols are very usefull when it comes to distinguishing them from the received project package.
Any suggestions how to solve the problem?
Thanks,
Matthias

Maybe try... Jun 28, 2014

... this KB article first... and where it says 2011 think 2014:

http://kb.sdl.com/kb/article?ArticleId=3940&source=article&c=12&cid=23

If that doesn't help you drop me an email and I have a small tool you can use that may help restore the file associations.

Regards

Partly solved... Jun 29, 2014

...after applying the method you recommended, Paul (thanks a lot!), especially the proper file symbols for sdlxliff are back again. Unfortunately, before applying the repair function, I already associated for both type of packages (.sdlrpx / sdlppx and .wsxf) Studio in general, so the repair did not work for them and still the general Studio 2014 symbol is shown in explorer windows. Now I do not know how to return these associations to get back the proper file symbols after a new repair run according to the mentioned kb. Do you please have any advice? Thanks!

You didn't say what version of Windows... Jun 29, 2014

... but I guess you could take a look at some of these articles. I have not tried any of these so I can't vouch for how successful they will be, but the internet is full of useful stuff for windows operations and these instructions do seem to come up fairly consistently:

Win7
http://www.ehow.com/how_8174512_remove-file-association-windows-7.html

Win XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307859

I tried this in Win7 out of interest and it's actually quite simple. If you open a command prompt and type this then press the enter key:

assoc /?

It will return the following info:

ASSOC [.ext[=[fileType]]]

.ext Specifies the file extension to associate the file type with
fileType Specifies the file type to associate with the file extension

Type ASSOC without parameters to display the current file associations.
If ASSOC is invoked with just a file extension, it displays the current
file association for that file extension. Specify nothing for the file
type and the command will delete the association for the file extension.

So if you typed this:

assoc.sdlppx=

The pressed return this should remove the associations with sdlppx.

Make sense?

Regards

Paul

Solved! Jun 29, 2014

Thanks a lot, Paul, the first link (Windows 7) worked, although I had to restart the machine before the changes came into effect.
Have a nice Sunday!
